Melvin O. Haugen

Funeral service for Melvin O. Haugen, 78, of Aurora, will be 11am Monday Jan. 31 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Virginia with Rev. John Cowan officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Spring burial will take place in Poplar Lake Cemetery in Fosston, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Mr. Haugen died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at his daughter's residence in Red Wing, MN. He was born Dec. 25, 1932 in Winger, MN to Otto and Helen (Vraa) Haugen. Melvin was a graduate of McIntosh High School and later began working for J&L Mining Company. On June 2, 1956 he married Norma Olson in Fosston, MN. He continued working for the mining company as a plant operator and retired from LTV Steel in 1994. Melvin was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Steelworkers Union #4108 and SOAR. He was an avid woodworker and craftsman. His great loves were his Lord and his family. Survivors include his wife, Norma, daughters, Kari (Allen) Dorsher of Hopkins and Janelle (Paul) Kampe of Red Wing, grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Allison Dorsher, Jonathan, Aaron, and Annika Kampe and one expected grandson, mother, Helen Haugen of Erskine, brothers, Lowell and Orvis Haugen, several nieces, nephews and one aunt. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto and a brother, Jerome.
