Visitation for Lowell Vern Braaten, 72, of Aurora, will be 5-7pm Monday Feb. 14 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Spring burial will take place in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Bemidji, MN. Mr. Braaten died Thurs. Feb. 10, 2011 at St. Michael's Health and Rehab Center in Virginia. He was born April 29, 1938 in Bemidji, MN to Clarence and Mabel (Aamodt) Braaten. Lowell was a graduate of Bemidji High School in 1956. On Dec. 7, 1957 he married Joyce Benson of Tenstrike, MN. Following their marriage, he attended Bemidji State University and earned a degree in education. He taught in the Little Falls school district for many years prior to retiring in Shevlin, MN and later to Aurora in 2005. Lowell enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and auction sales. Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Aurora, daughter, Tammi (Dwayne) Reller of Otisco, MN, son, Troy (Kristin Zallar) Braaten of Aurora, grandchildren, Melissa and Jeremy Reller and McKenzie and Trent Braaten, siblings, Clint (Delores) Braaten of Bemidji, Betty (Orv) Berg of Fairbault and Myrna (Duane) Bohlman of Bemidji. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Sherman and a sister Mary Jane in infancy.
