Allen J. Hietala

Memorial service for Allen John Hietala, 78, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11am Mon. Feb. 21, 2011at Heritage Trail Bible Church in McKinley with Pastor Michael Wefel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Spring inurnment will be in the Rauha Cemetery in White Township. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Mr. Hietala died Fri. Feb. 11, 2011 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1932 in Biwabik, MN to John and Lydia (Heikkila) Hietala. Allen was a graduate of Aurora High School and later served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he attended Virginia Jr. College. He married Dorothy J. Johnson on July 25, 1957. Allen worked as an iron worker in the construction industry in Montana and Minnesota. In his retirement years he worked for the Forestry Department in Aurora. He was a member of Heritage Trail Bible Church, the Aurora American Legion and the Hoyt Lakes VFW Post. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the country shows, socializing at the VFW with friends and spending time with family. Survivors include his children: Denise (Lowell) Maki of Gilbert, Cheryl (Patrick) Briski of Eveleth, Lynelle Gentile of Gilbert and Guy Hietala of Novato, CA, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and an expected great grandson in April, one niece, one nephew and a special friend, Lorraine. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy, second wife, Dee, granddaughter, Monica, a sister, Arlene Mattila and a nephew, Michael.
