Norris C. Halvorson

Funeral service for Norris C. Halvorson, 88, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11am Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Rev. Charles Barnes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Norris died Thurs, May 5, 2011 at Essentia Health - Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born March 26, 1923 on a farm near Esmond, ND to Albert and Inga (Djoseland) Halvorson. Norris was a graduate of Isabel, ND High School and later attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. In Nov. 1945 he married Maxine Knatterud in Maddock, ND. Norris farmed in North Dakota prior to moving to Hoyt Lakes in 1957. Here, he worked for Erie Mining Company as a millwright, retiring in 1985. In North Dakota, Norris sang in a mens octet and during his lifetime he enjoyed horseshoe, golf and pool. He and Maxine spend 19 years wintering in Texas and had been an active member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1957. He especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Maxine; children: Marsha (Donald) Morrison of Gilette, Wyo., Sharon (Arthur) Cherro of Hoyt Lakes, Craig (Julia) Halvorson of Waconia and Bradley (Mary) Halvorson of Andover; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters: Evelyn Miller, Eunice Bengson and Dallas Ellingson all of North Dakota; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Olaf, Alvin, Leo, Clarine, Amanda, Viola, Geno and Audrey.
