Simon Samuel Ratzlaff

Funeral service for Simon Samuel Ratzlaff, 79, of Markham, will be 10:30am Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Aurora with Pastor Derrick DeTurk officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and continue for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in the Markham Cemetery in Colvin Township. Mr. Ratzlaff died Sat. July 23, 2011 at his home. He was born March 1, 1932 in Marion, SD to Sam and Magdalina (Lang) Ratzlaff. Following his high school graduation, he married Patricia Goreth on Dec. 3, 1959 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora. Simon worked as an auto mechanic at LTV Steel for 36 years. He also worked in the mail room at Mesabi Daily News for 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children, Lawton D. Mueller Jr. of Virginia, Valerie Morrow of Iron, Velvalee (Albert) Jurenic of Fayal Twp. and Veronica (Jerry) Mattson of South Dakota; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings, Marjorie (Maynard) Benson, Deborah (Larry) Dague, Clifford Ratzlaff and Melvin Ratzlaff; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Simon Samuel (2006), granddaughter, Loretta Adina (1979), sisters, Rosella and Delilah, brother, Elias
