Sylvia I. Lahti

Funeral service for Sylvia Ina Lahti, 93, of Gilbert, will be 11am Wednesday September 7, 2011 in Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia with Rev. Nathan Sager officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Sylvia died peacefully on September 1, 2011 at the Virginia Convalescent Care Center. She was born January 22, 1918 in Gilbert, MN to Isaac and Hilda (Akolahti) Lahti. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School and served in civil service positions for thirty years. Some of her early positions were in Washington, D.C. and Fort Coy, WI. For most of her working career, Sylvia worked for the U.S. Veterans Administration in Minneapolis, MN and Los Angeles, CA. She retired and returned to Gilbert in 1975. Sylvia was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia and a former member of Hope Lutheran Church in Gilbert. She was a member of the Ladies of Kaleva, Lokka Tupa#1 in Virginia. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Lahti; a niece, Patricia Lahti and her husband, Louis Vietti. She is preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
