Funeral service for Gerald Dean Saw, 77, of Biwabik, will be 2pm Monday, September 12, 2011 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Dan Ronn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN. Gerald died Friday, September 9, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 23, 1934 in Grand Rapids, MN to Wilfred and Trudy Saw. Gerald attended Greenway High School and played hockey for the Taconite Hornets. Gerald served with the US Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Alaska and during that time also played hockey. Following his military service he married Nancy Carlson on March 9, 1957 in Minneapolis. Gerald was a 27 year employee at US Steel and retired from there as a boiler engineer. Gerald enjoyed coaching hockey in Coon Rapids, MN and for the Gilbert Bantams. He was an avid Greenway hockey and "all sports" fan. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time at the hunting shack. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; son, John (Shari) Saw of Ely; grandson, William (Brittney Schaar) Saw of Grand Rapids; siblings, Jane (Larry) Luoma of Coleraine and Karen Saw of Elk River; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Pearl.
