Memorial service for Wesley E. Shostedt, 83, of Hibbing, formerly of Virginia, will be 10am Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Midway (Virginia). Rev. John Brooks will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik, MN. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Wesley died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was born January 2, 1928 in Columbia Heights, MN to John and Selma (Sundquist) Shostedt. In 1946 he began serving with the US Army. On December 21, 1946 he married Myrtle Knutsen in Stillwater, MN. He worked for the Maple Island Creamery prior to moving to the Iron Range in 1957. Here, he worked for Erie Mining Company as a furnace operator until his retirement from LTV Steel in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; sons, Allen (Mary) Shostedt of Duluth and Gregory (Barbara) Shostedt of Lakeland; five grandchildren, Leah (Michael) McNulty, Meggan (Steven) Johnson, Colleen (Craig) Buchanan, Krista Royal and Alicia (John) Bandelin; great grandchildren, Rhiannon, Lauren, Samuel, Mycala, Paiton, Chase and McKenna; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Axel and Fred.
