Donald James Anderson, 72, died Friday February 24, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. Memorial service will be held 10 am, Saturday March 3, 2012 at Ziemer Moeglein Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, MN. There will be a time to greet friends one hour prior, Rev. Jeffrey Jones officiating. Reception will be held at the Gilbert VFW, springtime urn burial to take place in Biwabik Cemetery. Don was born December 15, 1939 to Edgar and Beatrice (Stempf) Anderson in Duluth, MN. Don worked hard his entire life, retiring in 1995 for health reasons. He was at General Mills in Duluth, Erie Mining in Hoyt Lakes, Giants Ridge for the IRRRB, formerly owned the Biwabik Times newspaper, and also served in the National Guard. He was a proud member of the NRA, was involved in teaching the Cub Scouts, and was an avid outdoorsman. Don took great pride in providing for his family, he had a big heart with a great sense of humor. Don will be dearly missed. Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen 'Kitty'; two sons Mitchell (Trina) Anderson of Maple Grove, Nick (Rita Castle) Anderson of Biwabik; six grandchildren, Brandi, Jessica, Cody, Shayna, Trevor; sister Vivian (Ralph) Nelson, brother-in-law Leonard Grew; extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Nikki; brothers Edgar 'Ed', Richard 'Dick', sisters Norma Carlson, and Jean Grew.
