Visitation for Julia V. Samargia, 97, of Gilbert, will be from 10am-11:30am Thursday, July 5, 2012 in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. A graveside service led by Fr. Charles Flynn will follow in the Gilbert Cemetery. Julia died Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Virginia Convalescent Care Center where she had been a resident for the past four weeks. Julia was born a twin on February 26, 1915 to Robert and Mary (Nekich) Samargia of Gilbert and has resided there for most of her 97 years. She worked in Chicago, Illinois during the war years, returning to Gilbert to care for her parents. She was also a homemaker and a seamstress at the Cluett Peabody Shirt Factory, retiring from there in 1977. She was an avid sports fan, rarely missing any home games at the local high school. Julia was also a Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed watching their games on tv. Julia was a member of a Virginia Bowling League, the Gilbert Senior Citizens, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. She traveled to Croatia to see relatives on more than one occasion. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary (Biondich) Samargia; nieces and nephews: Robert Snoek, Marion Ranft, John (Patricia) Snoek, Dorena (Howard) Dodds, Ruth Taber, Elizabeth (William) Chase, Carol (Gene) Wade, Joseph (Jane) Samargia, Robert (Luzette) Samargia, Jerry (Susan) Samargia, Jean (Robert) Niemi, Sally (Joel) Marinsek, Jack (Vicki) Grahek, John (Kathleen) Samargia, Connie Yost, Donna (Kenneth) Dinco, Joann (James) Matthews, Mary Beth (Dwight) Landon, Donald (Toni Piazza) Klink; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Joseph, George and John; five sisters: Ann Snoek, Sally Culbertson, Rose Grahek, Marie Klink, twin sister, Madeline and nephew, James Grahek.
