Funeral Mass for Robert J. Prosen, 92, of Virginia, formerly of Gilbert, will be 10am Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Charles Flynn as celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday (today) from 5-7pm with recitation of the rosary at 6:30pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Mr. Prosen died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Virginia Convalescent Care Center. He was born July 21, 1920 in Gilbert, MN to Louis and Theresa (Babich) Prosen. He attended Gilbert High School, later graduated from Hibbing High School in 1937 and was also a graduate of Hibbing Jr. College. Robert served with the US Army during WWII for nearly four years and was discharged as a Tech-SGT. Robert worked for the National Bureau of Standards in Washington DC, and was a mail carrier and bus driver prior to working in the mining industry. He retired from US Steel Applied Research. On January 6, 1944 he married Margaret Faith of Elcor. During their lifetime, they lived in Duluth, Gilbert, Coleraine, Mt. Iron, Eveleth and Virginia. Robert was a Boy Scout Leader and served as Commander for the Gilbert American Legion. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was also an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Rosary Makers of Mary. Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Peg"; sons, Robert L. (Clyda) of Ely Lake, Thomas J. (Diane) of Gilbert, Michael J. (Lana) of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, Dennis E. (Renee) of Foster City, CA, Patrick G. (Michelle) of Apple Valley and Peter A. (Kim) of Burnsville; daughters, Kathleen F. (Randall) Lindquist and Elizabeth M. (Bruce) Smidt both of Sioux Falls, SD; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three expected great grandchildren; brother, Stanley Prosen of Winona; sister, Bernice Bailey of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Louis, Edward, Will and Dick; sisters: Theresa and Jennie.
