Funeral service for Stanley John Trost, 91, of Aurora, will be 3 pm Friday at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Fr. Steven Daigle officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will take place at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Stanley died surrounded by family, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at Essentia Health - Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born May 29, 1921 in McKinley, MN to Joseph and Johanna (Steblay) Trost. Stanley attended school in McKinley and Gilbert prior to working with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Stanley later served our country as a US Navy Air Corpsman at Pearl Harbor during World War II. On July 9, 1949 he married Josephine Hudela in Aurora. He began working for the Corsica Mine in McKinley and later transferred to Erie Mining Company. He retired from LTV Steel as an Assistant General Foreman of Maintenance with over 40 years of service. In 1955, he built the Tacora Theater in Aurora which he owned and operated until 1975. Stanley was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time at his Long Lake cabin. He hunted and fished extensively in MN and in Canada. He especially enjoyed music. He played the piano accordion and the button box, sharing polka music at many area events including local nursing homes. In later life, he took up woodworking, spending many hours creating beautiful and memorable pieces. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the All-Slav Club, the Aurora American Legion Post 241 and the Last Mans’ Club. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; daughters, Shelby A. Trost of Duluth, Brenda (Dave) Anderson of Morrison, CO and Ellen Trost of Durango, CO; grandchildren, Mitchell and Joshua Anderson, Kendra Randolph, Erik Anderson and Krystle Anderson; sister, Pauline Trost of Plymouth; former son-in-law, Dean E. Hammermeister of Duluth. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Trost; sister, Josephine Lopac; half-sisters, Albina and Molly.
