Funeral service for Ron L. Landa, 56, of Aurora, will be 10:30am Friday, October 5, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Aurora with Rev. Karl Helwig officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Ron went home to be with Jesus following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, September 30, 2012. He was born July 24, 1956 in Alton, Illinois to Charles and Barbara Daubman. On May 6, 1976 he married Karen Novakovich in Hibbing, MN. Ron worked at LTV Steel as a trackman until its closure. Following that, he worked at Fortune Bay Casino as a slot technician until his illness. During his diagnosis and battle with cancer, he still maintained a zest for life and never complained about his illness. Ron always trusted to "Leave it in God's hands." He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was always willing to help others. Ron will be sadly missed by his family. Ron was a member of the Aurora Fire Department EMT and served as an EMT at Fortune Bay. He was a member of Alcoholic's Anonymous and a personal friend of Bill W., who founded the organization. He was also a member of First Baptist Church, Steelworkers Union #4108 and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Karen of Aurora; son, Joe (Katie Sauter) Landa of Grand Rapids; grandson, Davey who was the light of his life; mother, Barbara Ramme of Virginia; mother-in-law, Josephine Phifer of Virginia; siblings, Joe Novakovich, Charles Daubman, Mike Daubman, Wanda Mielke, Tom Smith, Mike Novakovich and Nancy (Eddie) Kurtenbach; numerous extended relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, David in 1996; father, Charles; father-in-law, Tony.
