John P. Zamlen

Funeral service for John Peter Zamlen, 87, of Biwabik, will be 11am Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Fr. Charles Flynn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Eveleth Cemetery. Mr. Zamlen died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was born May 20, 1925 in Eveleth, MN to Frank and Filipino Zamlen. Following high school, he served with the US Army in Italy during WWII. He also attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. On December 29, 1950 he married Patricia Ruth Somers. John was an iron worker and worked for the DM & IR Railroad as a brakeman for over 30 years. On October 24, 1986 he married Molly Brula. John was an avid golfer and member of the Hoyt Lakes Mens Golf League. He also enjoyed ice fishing, curling and snowmobiling. Survivors include his children, Christine Zamlen of Virginia, John R. Zamlen of Plano, TX and Janelle (John) Gerber of SanDiego, CA; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Molly and brother, Frank.
