William V. Perko, age 90, died on Wednesday January 9, 2013, a resident of St. Michael's Nursing Home in Virginia. Memorial Mass will be held 10 AM Tuesday January 15, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church in Biwabik. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service, Fr. Steven Daigle officiating. Services by Ziemer Moeglein Shatava funeral home of Gilbert. A very special "Thank You" to the caring and talented staff of St. Michael's Nursing Home for their excellent care and East Range Hospice for their compassion. William was born in McKinley on March 30, 1922 and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1940. A lifelong resident of McKinley, he served as a volunteer fireman for over 30 years. He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Fleet aboard ARD 18 during WWII and retired from Erie Mining Company in 1984, after 29 years as a welder. He was united in marriage to Frances Andreachi on June 26, 1961, who survives him. Also survived by daughters, Susan M. Perko and Jane B. Andreachi, and sons, K. John (Bernadette) Andreachi and William (Maxine) Perko, as well as grandchildren, great-greandchildren and extended family members. Predeceased by parents, John and Mary (Marolt) Perko, siblings Mayme Mackie and John (Ben) Perko, and first wife, Christine Egger Perko.
