George H. Ostby

Memorial service for George H. Ostby, 86, of Biwabik, will be 10am Friday, January 25, 2013 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Rev. Joel Rova-Hegener officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik, MN. George died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Clayridge Assisted Living in Biwabik. He was born October 29, 1926 in Biwabik, MN to Walter and Sophia (Juusola) Ostby. George was a graduate of Biwabik High School and later attended Eveleth Vo-Tech. George served with the US Navy during WWII and following his military service, he returned home to work at the Biwabik Mine. Later, he transferred to Erie Mining Company where he retired from the accounting department. On July 31, 1963 he married Barbara Jamieson at St. John's Catholic Church in Biwabik. George served on the Biwabik School Board for several years and was a member of the Peterson-Lofquist-Bronczyk American Legion Post in Biwabik. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara; daughter, Margaret (Jeff) Augustine of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Carter Augustine and Jorin Augustine both of Des Moines; sister, Shirley Henderson of Biwabik. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; sister, Charlotte Osborne; brother-in-law, Ted Henderson; sister-in-law, Arlyss Ostby.
