Funeral service for Dorothy Evelyn Poderzay, 79, of Gilbert, will be 11am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Rev. Joel Rova-Hegener officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Dorothy died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Essentia Health - Virginia. She was born June 24, 1933 in Brainerd, MN to Francis and Evelyn (Plummer) Turner. Following her schooling, she married Harry W. Jacobson. Later, she married John J. Poderzay Jr. Dorothy worked as a bartender/waitress in various establishments on the Iron Range. She was considered one of the best. Dorothy also worked with Bobby Aro and Johnny Snidarich on the Polka Show. Most recently at the age of 67, she worked at Irresistible Ink. She was an active participant for the Democratic Party on the Iron Range and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, painting, drawing and listening to old time country and polka music. Survivors include her children, Michael (Yvette) Jacobson of Elk River, Debbie Jacobson of Mt. Iron, Bradley Jacobson of Iron, John C. "Biggy" Poderzay of Gilbert and Russ (Cassi) Poderzay of Braham; daughter-in-law: Nancy Rosati Jacobson of Palo; 10 grandchildren, Tim, Nick, Wendy, Jason, Kacera, Katrina, Jesse, Sheree, Cady and Calvin; four great grandchildren; Mya, Kira, Dylan and Jack; siblings: Jim (Gloria) Turner of Renton, WA, Margie Willman of Eveleth, Steven (Marie) Turner of Virginia, Vicki Kochevar of Markham and Mary Lou (Les) Karkinen of Gilbert; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, children: Cathy and Larry; siblings: Robert, Richard, Sara, Charles and Susan.
