Funeral service for Ruth Alma Sandys, 92, of Gilbert, will be 11am Thursday, February 14, 2013 at True Hope Fellowship Church in (Midway) Virginia with Pastor Joel Kallberg officiating. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will also continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in International Falls, MN. Ruth died Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Raphael's Health and Rehab in Eveleth, MN. Ruth was born March 25, 1920 in Border, MN to John and Mary (Nelson) Johnson. She attended a one room country school until the eighth grade and later in life received her GED. Ruth worked at the Rex Hotel where she sent home money to help support her parents who were still living on the family farm. During this time, she met Robert Sandys. They were married on July 16, 1935 in International Falls, MN. She and her husband owned and operated Star Laundry in International Falls for nearly 30 years. In 1976 the family moved to the Iron Range. Here she worked at the Hibbing Hospital in the kitchen and later in the ICU Department until her retirement in 1983. Ruth was a member of the Assembly of God Church and its RV MAPS Program where she spent 15 years providing volunteer services. She was also a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer. Ruth was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed playing all types of musical instruments and will be remembered for her sense of humor. Survivors include her children: Alfred (Dottie) Sandys of Hibbing, Virginia (Jack) McDonnell of Mesa, AZ, Clyde (Maria) Sandys of Fridley, Gerald (Jackie) Sandys of Hibbing, Ruth (Chris) Nyberg of North Branch and Patricia (Mark) Morin of Eveleth; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Mary; children: Arlene, Larry and Robert; husband, Robert; six siblings; grandson, Ralph.
