Funeral service for Linda Lou Maki, 61, of rural Gilbert (Hutter), will be 10:30am Friday, April 12, 2013 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Rev. Emily Rova-Hegener officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Biwabik Township Cemetery. Linda died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 8, 1952 in Hardtner, Kansas to Clarence and Lucille (Sanders) Geist. Due to her father's occupation, Linda was enrolled in several schools in her earlier years and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1970. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Glen Lake Sanatorium and later for J & L Mine. There, she was the first female shovel operator and earned the Lifesaving Award. On October 19, 1979 she married Rudy Maki in Watertown, SD. Linda also worked at East Range Technology, Sykes and finally for Finger hut for several years. Linda loved to travel on weekend adventures with her mother and enjoyed hunting and fishing in her earlier years. She enjoyed solving word games, reading, spending time on her computer, cooking gourmet recipes and was an artist at heart. Survivors include her husband, Rudy; daughter, Amanda Maki of Chisholm; mother, Lucille Geist of Gilbert; siblings, Virginia (Michael) Mourin of Gilbert, Mary Ann (David) Anderson of Gilbert, Clarence Geist Jr. of Gilbert, Cindy (John) Ranta of McKinley, Betty (Anton) Udovich of Gilbert and Judy Geist of Gilbert; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence; sister, Janet; brother, Scotty.
