Edward J. Karkoska

Edward Joseph Karkoska, 84, the original founder of Giant's Ridge Ski Area, passed away May 13, 2013, in the comforts of his home with the love of his family embracing him. Edward took tremendous pride in being a dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, loyal friend, avid outdoorsman, WWII Marine, visionary and mining engineer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gretchen Karkoska; Children David (Kim) Karkoska, Kim Karkoska, Peter Karkoska, Lynn (Greg) Lenz, Noni (Kurtis Wosmek) Karkoska; Grandchildren Joseph, Jill, Sophie, Maude, Olivia, Kaya, Eva, and Henry and Great-Grandson Brody. Edward lived his life in its entirety with dignity, grace, honor and kindness. Semper Fi, Eddie. Visitation 10am Saturday May 18, 2013 until the 11am Memorial Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, MN. Fr. John O'Donnell will be celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to the CHUM Center in Duluth, Northwoods Children's Home or an organization of your choosing.
