Harold A. Walz

Harold Arthur Walz, 86 went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born to Anna (Schmidt) and Albert Walz on May 19, 1926 in his family home in rural Karlstad, MN. Harold was the youngest of ten children and raised on a farm in Karlstad. He lost his father as a teenager and took over the farming responsibilities. He married the love of his life, Doris Mae Erickson on March 22, 1951. Harold continued farming until 1962. He and his family made the move to the Iron Range in 1966 where he worked various jobs until he began his own logging business. Harold loved the outdoors and working with machines. He had a special talent for fixing anything by using whatever material were available at the time. He enjoyed flying his airplane and taking friends and relatives up for some thrills. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years and fishing trips with Doris and friends. Harold logged until he was in his early 80's until poor health would no longer allow it. When all the children left home Harold and Doris spent many miles traveling in their motorhome traveling. We called them the "honeymooners" because they were always together, on the road. For the last 14 years Harold has been a devoted husband to Doris and primary caregiver after her stroke. Harold and Doris shared a room at Northern Pines Nursing Home in Aurora since the fall of 2011. Harold was preceeded in death by his parents, eight of his siblings and his son Albert (Al) P. Walz. He is survived by his wife Doris of 61 years, four daughters, Pam Walz (Holmen, WI), Paulette Dunn (Alan), Littleton, CO, Patty (Bob) Palmi, (Holmen, WI), Penny Erickson, (Larry), Duluth, MN, and one sister Irene Paulson (Karlstad MN). Grandchildren, Carmen (Rick) Larson, Carrie Palmi, Phillip Park, Aaron Park, Kirsten (Adam) Wrenberg, Laurissa (Steve) Brunk, Sarah Walz, and Caleb Walz. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Aurora, MN on Monday, May 20th, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Carl Helwig will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora, MN. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
