Memorial service for Gene Wayne "Geno" Olds , 77 of Aurora, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Giants Ridge Chalet in Biwabik. Pastor Derrick DeTurk will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mesabi East Youth Hockey program. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Aurora. Geno died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born July 3, 1935 in Outing, MN to Ralph and Florence (Roberts) Olds. He served our country in the United States Army. In 1959 he moved to Aurora and began working for Erie Mining Company. On February 4, 1961 he married Nancy Hendrickson in Eveleth, MN and later retired from LTV Steel as a millwright. He was a member of Steelworkers #4108 and a former member of the Biwabik Masonic Lodge. Following his retirement, he worked at the Legend and Quarry Golf Courses and at the Ski Shop during the winter months. Geno was well known in the Iron Range hockey community as the "Voice" of the Mesabi East Hockey program. He also did the public address for high school football, softball and baseball games. When Geno wasn't volunteering his time at many of the youth sporting events, you could find him fulfilling his passion for golf at any of the courses across the Iron Range. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, children: Debra (Thomas) Rowbottom, Colleen (Jeff Weddel) Sprink all of Aurora and Dean Olds of Pike Sandy, four grandchildren Eric, Kyle and Alex Rowbottom and Jaxen Olds, great grandchild, Ryleigh Rowbottom, siblings: Doug, Ken, Kathy and Shirley, many nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, siblings: Richard, Ted, Russell and Roger.
