Paul R. Sanvik, 82, of Aurora, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Veteran's Home in Silver Bay following a battle with Alzheimer's. Paul was born January 24, 1931, to Andrew and Rose (Haack) Sanvik in Starbuck, MN. He graduated from Alexandria High School. Received his bachelor of science degree from St. Cloud State.He enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War. Paul was united in marriage to Cordelia Kuhn, May 14, 1955. Later he continued his education at Drake University acquiring his Masters degree. He taught physics , science and math in Jordan and Long Prairie, MN before coming to Aurora. He spent a year abroad in Australia on a teacher exchange. Upon his return he taught secondary math until he retired. The couple made their home in Aurora where they raised their seven children. He owned and operated Range Driver's Training and served as a municipal judge. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora, Knights of Columbus(Grand Knight),Boy scout leader for several years, American Legion, and a board member of Birthright. Paul loved God, his family, friends, and his country. He took pleasure in sharing a good story or joke making others laugh. Paul enjoyed hunting, gardening, reading, wood burning and carving, traveling, coaching,playing sports, and desserts. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Cordelia, seven children, Mary (Mike), Madden of Britt, Jane(Steve) House of Hoyt Lakes, Judy( Dave) Schink of Champlin, Tom (Judy) Sanvik of Winona, Su ( Pete) Martinetto of Grand Rapids, Ann (Chuck) Woodford of Minneiska, Rob (Gina) Sanvik of North Branch, a sister Rose Schneiderhan, sisters-in-law Hyacinth Kuhn, Willetta Barthelemy, Karen Kuhn and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Pat and Margaret, 1 brother, Theodore, a daughter, Jane Ann, a grandson Nicholas. Funeral Mass at 10:00am, Saturday, July13, 2013,at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora, with the Rev. Steven Daigle as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with recitation of the Rosary at 5:30pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Military honors will be accorded by the Quale-Schuster-Truman-Muhich American Legion Post 241 of Aurora. Arrangements by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava-Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
