Funeral service for James Donald Sale, 81, of Aurora, will be 10am Monday, July 15, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. Steven Daigle officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Quayle-Shuster-Truman-Muhich American Legion Post. Interment will be at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora, MN. Jim died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was surrounded by loved ones while fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 10, 1931 in Eveleth, MN to James M. and Ann H. (Kobe) Sale. James was a 1950 graduate of Aurora High School. He was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea in 1953. Following his military service, he married Marlene Peterson on February 1, 1958 in Biwabik, MN. James worked for Erie Mining Company and retired from LTV Steel as a painter. He was an active member of the Aurora American Legion and the Aurora VFW Post where he served as commander. James was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Gilbert VFW Post and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his spare time he enjoyed wood carving and listening to polkas. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marlene; daughters: Jeanene (Craig) Carpenter of Aurora, Susan (Jack) Emmeck of Houlton, WI, Cathy (Steve) Peterson of Gilbert and Joanne (Darrell) Ulrich of Birchdale; eight grandchildren: Rachel, Amie, Kellie, John, Zach, Wyatt, Walker and Hattie; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.
