Funeral service for Harry Delano Westerlund, 80, of Makinen, will be 11am Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Palo Congregational Church with Pastors Doug Sathren and Randy Melhus officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors by the Eveleth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post will be in the Rauha Cemetery in White Township, MN. Local arrangements are by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Harry died suddenly on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Essentia Health- Virginia. He was born June 1, 1933 in Eveleth, MN to Paul and Ida (Latvala) Westerlund. Harry was a graduate of Cotton High School and then enlisted with the US Army. He served in Korea as a radio operator. Following his military service, he worked for Minnesota Power in Eveleth for nearly 10 years. The majority of his life was spent working in the Banking, Finance and Insurance industry in Rochester, MN and Chicago, Illinois. Harry was active in the Makinen Senior Citizens where he served as President. He was a member of Palo Congregational Church, the Knights of Kaleva and a Life Member of the Eveleth Elks and the Eveleth VFW Post where he served as Past Commander. Survivors include his brother, LeRoy (May Ann) Westerlund of Minneapolis; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife, Nilda Westerlund of Chicago, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; sisters: Ruth Williams, Bernice Sandstedt and Violet Johnson.
