Gynola M. Hensley

Funeral Service for Gynola M. Hensley, 84, of Biwabik, will be 11am Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will be held at 11am Friday, Aug. 2 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN. Gynola died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Essentia Health - Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. She had been a resident of Willow Wood in Eveleth until February of this year. She was born April 5, 1929 in Walker, MN to Wesley and Thelma (Dwire) McGuire. Gynola was a 1947 graduate of Cass Lake High School and married her classmate and high school sweetheart, Ray Hensley, there on Nov. 22, 1948. They resided in Cass Lake until 1959. Their girls were born and Ray began his meat cutting career at Teal's in Bemidji in that time. Gynola and Ray were Hoyt Lakes residents from 1959-1961 when Ray was the meat dept. manager for IGA. From 1961-1963 they resided in Duluth while Ray was the asst. meat buyer at the Arrowhead Grocers (IGA) warehouse. The Hensley's then owned and operated Ray's IGA in Keewatin from 1963-1969. They moved to Biwabik and from 1969-1986 owned and operated Ray's IGA. Gynn was a longtime Committee Member for Biwabik's annual Weihnachtsfest event. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Hoyt Lakes until it's dissolution and then of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Virginia. For several years she was the housekeeper for St.John's Rectory in Biwabik and a clerk for Val DesRosier at Sweetheart Treasures in Biwabik. Survivors include her children: Joell (Larry) Swanson of Northglenn, CO and Rae Lynne (Charles) Koivu of Virginia; grandchildren: Dana Swanson of Northglenn, Emily (Jesse) Fruetel, Ryan (Christie) Larson of Portland, OR, James (Taryn) Spear and Casey (Sara) Behrens; great grandchildren: Josie Fruetel, Joseph and Autumn Spear; brother, Ken (Pat) McGuire of Roseville; a special niece & nephew, Kim McGuire Bloomquist and Patrick McGuire; three very special great nieces: RaeAnn, Kayla, and Autumn. She is preceded in death by her parents: Wesley and Thelma; husband, Ray; daughter, Connie Behrens; sister, Patsy; son-in-law, Joseph Spear
