Memoral Service for Terrance Henry Sweeney, 70, of Hoyt Lakes will be 11 AM Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post #8144 of Hoyt Lakes and American Legion #241 of Aurora. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Terrance died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 after a lengthy illness in his home surrounded by family. He was born on January 12, 1943 to Lawrence and Fern (Schmidt) Sweeney in LaCrosse, WI. He grew up and attended school in LaCrosse. Following school he enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam Conflict. On May 15, 1964 Terrance was united in marriage to Laurel Kari in Duluth. In 1967 the couple moved to Hoyt Lakes where they made their home. Terrance worked for the DWP Railroad for 17 years. He continued his career at LTV as a diesel mechanic until the company's closure. Terrance was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes, The Aurora American Legion #241, the IBEW Local #366, and the Steelworkers Union # 4108. Terrance enjoyed hunting, fishing, and backyard gardening with his sons and grandsons. He will be remembered for his creative poetry, wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyment of practical jokes. Survivors include his wife, Laurel; three sons, Terry Jr. (Kris) of Centerville, MN; John (Sheree) of Hoyt Lakes, and Thad (Kim Schmid) of Hoyt Lakes; three grandsons: Garrett, Nicholas, and Patrick; two bonus granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica Schmid; one brother, Thomas (Betty) Sweeney of Plover, WI; numerous aunts,an uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
