Memorial service for Thomas Peter Martinich, 65, of Virginia, will be 1 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia with Fr. Michael Garry officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Tom embarked on a new journey Monday, September 9, 2013 at Essentia Health - Duluth with family at his side. Tom was born January 18, 1948 in Virginia, MN to Thomas and Mary Ann (Turnbull) Martin. Tom and Amy were married in 1995 on Tom's birthday, he always referred to Amy as the best present he ever received. Tom was well-loved by family and friends and will be truly missed. Whether it was painting, renovating, telling stories, or just spending time with friends and family, Tom always put forth his best effort. To the very core, Tom was a caring, loving, and genuinely great person. He will forever be remembered in our hearts as the selfless, creative, and hard-working man that he was. Friends and family are welcome at Tommy's Rainy Lake Saloon following the service to celebrate Tom's life. As Tom would say, "try to be good." Survivors include his wife, Amy; sons, Thomas (Deb) Martin of Eveleth and Nicholas (Carly Gobats) Siveny of Virginia; grandchildren: Mike, Nick, Nichoel, Chandra, Kegan, Dante, Niki, Rachelle, and Leo; three great grandchildren: Jonathan, Vance and Tristan; siblings: Liz (LeRoy) Hautala of Idaho, Rosie (Paul) Laganis of Wash., Marietta Stravens of Wash., Anna (Mike Rambo) Martinich of MN, Mary Ann Martinich of MN and Janet (Larry) Johnson of OR; father-in-law: Bruce (Barbara) Maki of MN; numerous nieces and nephews and his former wife, Anna Roberts of Virginia. Tom is preceded in death by parents and a daughter, DeeAnn.
