Funeral Services for Eero William Maki, 99, of Markham will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 21, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Palo with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Rauha Cemetery in White Township. Military honors accorded by the VFW # 8144 of Hoyt Lakes and the Amercian Legion #241 of Aurora. Mr. Maki died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. Eero was born on May 16, 1914 to Henry William and Amanda (Limperi) Maki in Markham. Eero grew up and attended school in Markham. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the European Theater, First Infantry, 33rd Battalion. Following his honorary discharge from the Army, Eero returned the Markham where he worked in farming and logging. Eero operated Maki logging and continued logging in the Elephant Lake, Mooseline, and Isabella areas. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Virginia, Aurora and Hoyt Lakes Bowling Leagues for men and seniors, and the American Legion #241. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Alice Maki of Markham and Shirley Maki of Palo; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, including his niece and caretaker, Kathy (Gary) Kangas of Hibbing, the daughter Eero never had. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Amanda Maki; 9 sibings: Thomas, Elias, Eino, Frank, Howard, Lauri, Helmi, Esther and a brother in infancy; and one nephew: Loren
