Maxine Halvorson

Funeral service for Maxine Harriet Carmen Halvorson, 87, of Hoyt Lakes will be 2 PM Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Brendan Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Cemetery in Hoyt Lakes. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Mrs. Halvorson died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her home. She was born on August 17, 1926 to Christian and Carrie (Bondeli) Knatterud in Maddock, ND. Maxine graduated from the Benson County Agriculture and Training School in Maddock. Later she joined the Nurses Cadet Corp, receiving an honorable discharge on the day WWII ended. Maxine was united in marriage to Norris Halvorson on November 4, 1945 in Maddock, ND. She had served in many capacities as a homemaker, developing home based businesses in ceramics, catering, and wedding cakes. Maxine retired as an activity director at the White Community Hospital in Aurora. She was an active member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes, volunteering as a Sunday school and release time teacher. Maxine enjoyed making Christmas ornaments, quilting, sewing, and Norwegian needlework, known as hardanger. Maxine enjoyed traveling, especially the trips to Texas with Norris for nineteen years. She will be remembered as a quiet woman of strong faith and was a "Prayer Warrior" for her children and grandchildren. Survivors include: Four children: Marsha (Donald) Morrison of GIllette, WY; Sharon (Arthur) Cherro of Hoyt Lakes; Craig (Julia) Halvorson of Waconia, MN; and Brad (Mary) Halvorson of Castle Rock, CO; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchilren; two sisters, Carol Pederson of Bismarck, ND and Joan Bratvold of LaJunta, CO; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norris; a brother, Merton Knatterud; and a sister, Lois Oscarson.
