Patricia N. Bonnema

Funeral service for Patricia Nella Bonnema, 84, of Hoyt Lakes will be 10 AM Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Cemetery in Hoyt Lakes at a later date. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Mrs. Patricia Bonnema died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the St. Michael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. Patricia was born on May 17, 1929 to Joe and Ellen Louise (Alexander) Westall in Reading, England. She grew up and attended school in England. Patricia was united in marriage to Stanley Bonnema on March 24, 1956. The couple moved back to the United States and resided in Hoyt Lakes. In 1972 Patricia was naturalized as a United States citizen. She was very active in the community. Patricia served on the Hoyt Lakes Library Board, volunteered as an election judge, sang for Thursday worships at the White Community Hospital, and was a Girl Scout Brownie Leader. For several years Patricia volunteered for the Amercian Cancer Society. Patricia was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes and also served as a delegate for the Methodist church. Patricia enjoyed sewing, knitting, and traveling, especially the numerous cross-country bus trips with her husband, Stan during their retirement, and her annual birthday shopping trips with her daughter, Carmel. Patricia had a passion for books and reading. She will be remembered with the following quote: “You can’t get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.” Patricia is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stanley; two daughters, Carmel Bridget (Leon) Hunt of Virginia; and Gretchen Irene Bonnema of Green Bay, WI; one granddaughter, Rhonda Lynn (Ben) Fritz of Madison, WI; one great-grandson, Davyn Zachary Fritz; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ellen Westall; an infant daughter, a grandson, Zachary Allen; two sisters, Bridget and Dorothy; a brother, Ted; and her mother-in-law, Minnie Bonnema.
