Funeral Mass for Michael Boczkur, 93, of Biwabik will be 10 AM Monday, November 4, 2013 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik with Fr. Steven Daigle celebrant. A visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Mr. Boczkur died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Essentia Health – Northern Pines in Aurora. Michael was born on October 5, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Boczkur in Poland. Michael immigrated from Poland by ship though New Orleans, LA. From there, he traveled by train to Chicago, IL and finally by bus to Virginia, MN to meet his two sponsors from Biwabik. It was on the Iron Range that Michael married Anne Mae Oberstar, and together the couple started a family. He had been employed by the Erie Mining Company, retiring after 35 years of service. He was extremely proud of the American soldiers who liberated his labor camp in a coal mine during WWII. Michael honored the American flag and would regularly sing “God Bless America”. Michael will be remembered as a beloved spouse, father, and grandfather who was a patriotic, hardworking, and outgoing man. Survivors include his wife: Anne; two daughters, Marianne (Dr. Matt) Anzelc of Hibbing and Jean (Kenneth) Lauren of South St. Paul, MN; three granddaughters, Sally Anzelc of New Brighton, MN, Gretchen (Phillip) Pogge of Eden Prairie, MN and Nancy (Mike) Thesing of San Diego, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
