Robert C. Osborne Robert C. Osborne “Ozzie”, 88, of Hoyt Lakes died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Essentia Health Northern Pines Hospital in Aurora, surrounded by his family. Bob was born on December 2, 1925 in Ironwood, Michigan to Richard and Keturah Osborne. He attended Ironwood Schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944. He received his diploma by mail, having enlisted in the United States Navy and reporting to Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois before graduation ceremonies were held. From 1944 to 1946, he served with the Seabees in the South Pacific, notably at Wake Island and the New Hebrides. After being honorably discharged, he worked for the Ironwood Trailer Factory and the White Pine (Michigan) Mining Company. In 1957, he married Julia Borowiec in Ironwood and in 1958 they moved to Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, where they raised their family. Bob retired from Erie Mining Company (later LTV) in 1989 after 30 years of service. At various times in his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family, bowling, gardening, woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting casinos, and dancing with Julie. He enjoyed watching Minnesota Viking, Green Bay Packer and Minnesota Twins games. A welder by trade, he was always interested in building things, taking things apart, and figuring out how things worked. For many years he was a regular at the Hoyt Lakes Golf Course. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and an infant granddaughter. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Julia of Hoyt Lakes; sons Craig (Anne), of Antigo, Wisconsin, and Tom (Becky), of Hoyt Lakes; daughter Roberta (Bob Peterson) 0sborne, of Ham Lake, Minnesota; Marj (Steve Blomster) Cox of Duluth; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be 10am Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Steven Daigle as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard.
