John Francis Anzelc

Memorial Mass for John Francis Anzelc, 90, of Biwabik will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik with Fr. Frank Perkovich Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Military honors accorded by the VFW Post # 8144 of Hoyt Lakes and the American Legion #241 of Aurora. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert and Aurora. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the American Lung Association. Mr. Anzelc died Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Essentia Health Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. John was born in April 7, 1923 to Matt and Angeline (Zollar) Anzelc in Biwabik. He grew up and attended school in Biwabik. Following high school, John attended Duluth Business University. He was drafted into the US Army, serving nearly three years during WWII. John was employed by Erie Mining Company as an assistant general foreman until his retirement in 1985. John was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik and the Peterson-Lofquist-Bronczyk American Legion Post where he served as treasurer. John was a Biwabik City Councilor and a strong supporter of the Bavarian theme. John served as the Biwabik Fire Chief, was a past President of BACA, and worked for many years at Giants Ridge. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time in a cabin in Canada. Survivors include: his sister, Rosalie Anzelc of Biwabik; two nieces, Mary Colleen (Allen) Shostedt of Duluth and Mary Sue Jenness of Wayzata, MN; two nephews, Dr. Matt (Marianne) Anzelc of Hibbing and Patrick Anzelc of St. Paul; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Angeline Anzelc; brothers, Frank and Matt; a sister, Mary Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Anzelc and Sarah Anzelc.
