Funeral Mass for Julia Helen Malnar, 86, of Gilbert, will be 11am Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St.Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Charles Flynn and Fr. Frank Perkovich con celebrating the mass. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the mass at church. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Julia died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Eveleth Health Services Park. She was born February 16, 1928 in Virginia, MN to John and Ana (Tominovich) Ercegovich. She was a life long resident of Gilbert and 1946 graduate of Gilbert High School. On October 25, 1950 she married Ljubomir Malnar in Virginia, MN. In her early years she worked at the Gilbert Shirt Factory and later became a full time homemaker and mother of five children. Julia worked for the numerous local cafes in Gilbert in various capacities. She was a foster grandparent for almost 20 years and was cherished by all the students. Julia also delivered newspapers for the Mesabi Daily News, the Manney’s Shopper and the Grit for over 20 years. Julia was a fabulous cook and was known for many homemade specialties; especially her homemade onion rings. Julia was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, the Council of Catholic Women; she was a past member of the George and Mark Klobuchar VFW Auxiliary; and served as President of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #238 for many years. She was active in the March of Dimes and the Gilbert Fourth of July Committee, where she was always the top seller of raffle tickets. The family wishes to thank Julia’s daughter-in-law, Debbie for all the love and care given to her over the years. Survivors include her children: Richard (Debbie) Malnar, Roberta (Larry) Klink, Christine “Tina” Elg, Charlene (Al) Olsen, and Frank Malnar all of Gilbert; grandchildren: Travis, Dana, Danni, Eric, Ashley, Heidi, Tanya, Therese, Mary, Krystie, James, Kenneth and Marilyn; great grandchildren: Zach, Lauren, Emily, Megan, Makayla, Courtnie, Cheyenne, Christopher, Nicholas, Michael, Luca, Lola, Brooklyn and Jersey; great great grandchild: Corbin; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lubo; siblings: John, Tom, Anton, Charles, Mike and Mary; grandchildren: Ryan, Breanna and Jonathan; grandson-in-law, Ben Peterson; son-in-law, Pat Hogan.
