John "Jack" Marvel

December 29, 1935 — March 13, 2014

Memorial service for John "Jack" J. Marvel, 78, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10:30am Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Trinity Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Jerry Kosanovich officiating.  Friends may gather one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery.  Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.   Jack died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora, MN.   He was born December 29, 1935 in Duluth, MN to John and Mary (Vodochodsky) Marvel.  Jack was a graduate of Toivola-Meadowlands High School and later graduated from the auto body repair program at Duluth Vo-Tech.   On October 5, 1957 he married Virginia Anderson in Meadowlands.  Jack worked a short time in the auto body repair industry prior to working for Erie Mining Company.  He retired in 1995 from LTV Steel as a painter.  During that time, Jack also worked part time at the Shell Station and the Phillips 66 in Hoyt Lakes.   Jack and his wife enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, AZ for 15 years.  He enjoyed restoring old classic cars; especially his 1949 Packard.  He enjoyed a good flea market, car shows, riding his motorcycle, traveling, family time and was an all around handy man who was able to tackle most projects.   Jack was a member of the Aurora Moose, the Biwabik Masonic Lodge, the Hibbing Scottish Rite of Perfection, the Hoyt Lakes Car Club, the Western Fraternal Life Association and Trinity Methodist Church.   Survivors include his children: Tracy (Tom) Welch of Hoyt Lakes, Craig (Shannon) Marvel of Princeton, Dawn (Owney) Koski of Virginia and Todd Marvel of Denver, CO;  grandchildren: Tiffany, Erin (Erik), Chad (Ashley), Brody (Kelly), Ross (Melanie), Eric (Veronica), Adam, Mary, Michael and Daniel; great grandchildren: Abby, Izzy, Melina, Brayson, Elsie and Leo; brother, Robert (Fran) Marvel of Saginaw; aunt, Thelma Vodochodsky of New Port Richie, FL; brothers and sisters in law, Wesley (Carol) Anderson of Hibbing, Sheila (Greg) Schweiger of Hibbing and Barbara Marston of Minneapolis; several nieces and nephews.   He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Virginia (2012); uncle, Van Vodochodsky.
