Funeral service for Wallace "Wally" Arthur Mensink, 78, of Gilbert will be 11 AM Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Mickey Olson officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.Mr. Mensink died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Essentia Health Virginia. Wallace was born on September 6, 1935 to Virgil and Jesse (Vrieze) Mensink in Cherry Grove, MN. He grew up in Cherry Grove, graduating from the Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca, MN. Following school, Wallace married Janice Bosley on December 24, 1958. He was enlisted into the US Army. Upon returning from service overseas, Wallace worked several jobs including at the Raths Meat Packing Plant in Waterloo, IA as well as for John Deere. Wallace followed is passion for farming by purchasing a dairy farm in Cherry Grove and worked alongside his father and brothers. In 1975, Wallace’s family moved to Gilbert. He was employed by the Stavers Foundry and Siegels Furniture, from where he retired. Wally enjoyed fishing, refurbishing furniture, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include: two sons, Wade and Aaron Mensink and a daughter, Dawn (Terry) Craven, all of Gilbert; four grandchildren, Justin and Collin Craven and Taylor and Noah Mensink; five siblings, Verdon (Darlene) Mensink of Las Vegas, NV, Marlo (Janice) Mensink of Cherry Grove, MN, Donna (Dave) Oeltjen of TX, Marchel (Kevin) Comstock of Preston, MN and Bob Howe of Southern Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice in 2006 and his parents, Virgil and Jesse Mensink.
