Funeral service for Waclaw "Curly" Dombrowski, 90, of Aurora, will be 11:30am Friday, April 25, 2014 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Fr. Steven Daigle officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Burial will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Dombrowski died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Essentia - St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Waclaw was born August 29, 1923 in Chisholm, MN to John and Mary (Rutkowski) Dombrowski. He was a graduate of Chisholm High School and immediately began working in the Civilian Conservation Corp Camps. He worked a short time in Milwaukee, WI prior to being drafted into the US Army. Curly served in Europe and Africa from 1943-1945. During that time in WWII, he received two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star. Following his military service, he moved to Chicago and attended trade schooling as a tool and die maker and as a machinist. On December 27, 1949 he married Veryle Vanderwalker. Curly worked for Erie Mining Company as a machinist, later a foreman and retired from there as a Planner-Estimator for the company. Curly and Veryle especially enjoyed attending polka dances for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who always looked forward to blueberry picking season. Curly was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Veryle; children: John (Sally) Dombrowski of Maple Grove, Richard Dombrowski of Hibbing, Denise (Lee) Armstrong of Aurora and Alan (Luci) Dombrowski of Woodbury; grandchildren: Kaydee, Brett, Jason, Jill and Jenna; great grandchildren: Garrett, Sadie, Natalie and Zachary; sisters: Millie Studinski of Chisholm, Helen Citko of Chicago and Ann Kyp of Deland, FL; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Victoria, Stanley, Edward, and Steven in infancy; his canine companion, Lucky.
