Funeral Mass for Gary L. Kopp, 80, of Hoyt Lakes will be 10 am Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. Steven Daigle Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Mr. Kopp died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Essentia Heath - St. Mary's in Duluth. Gary was born on December 31, 1933 to Claire and Grace (Silver) Kopp in Primghar, IA. He attended school and graduated from Primghar High School, Class of 1953. During high school, Gary was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and was All State in football in his junior year. It was also during high school that Gary met the love of his life, Deloris Betten. Gary and Deloris were united in marriage on April 7, 1956 in Primghar, IA. Gary enlisted in the US Army. The couple moved to Chicago while Gary was serving in the Army. In 1957, the family moved to Hoyt Lakes where Gary worked at Erie Mining, from where he retired after 30+ years of service. Besides working in the mines, Gary was a beef cattle farmer having owned and operated a farm in Palo. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed refurbishing antique clocks, attending auction sales, and spending winters in Arizona. Gary especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very, very proud of his children and grandchildren.Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Deloris; three children, Nancy (Mike) Kearney of Hibbing, Debra (Gary) Ross of Buffalo, MN, and Dan (Melissa) Kopp of Duluth; five grandchildren, Ryan (Laurie) Ross, Erik (Kristin) Ross, Kelly (Tyler) Antony, Cole Kopp and Bryce Kopp; two great-grandchildren, Allyson and Daniel Ross; three brothers, Tom, Jay, and Dennis Kopp; one sister, Susan Bray; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his infant son, Steven Gary Kopp; one brother, Richard Kopp; and his parents.
