Funeral service for Lawrence Erick Larson, 87, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10:30am Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Brendan Johnston officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Burial will be at a later date in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Lawrence died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Cloquet Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, MN. He was born October 9, 1926 in St. James, MN to Nels and Emma (Goltz) Larson. Lawrence was a graduate of St. James High School and later enlisted with the US Army Air Corp. He served in Japan during WWII with the military police. Following his military service, he worked at the grain elevator in Butterfield, MN and in 1956 he married Margaret Tiedeman. The couple moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1957 and Larry began working for Erie Mining Company. He retired from LTV Steel as an assistant general foreman. Following retirement Larry worked as a greenskeeper for the Hoyt Lakes Golf Course for several years. Larry was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he especially enjoyed tending to the yardwork. He was also a member of the Hoyt Lakes VFW Post, the Aurora American Legion Post and the Hoyt Lakes Garden Club. He was a former member of the Rangers Snowmobile Club. In August 1961, Larry received a certificate of accomodation from the City of Hoyt Lakes for saving a resident's life. Larry enjoyed hunting, golfing and never passed up a dance to a good polka. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; children: David (Louise) Tiedeman of Soldotna, AK, Jaclyn Larson of Kennesaw, GA, Michael (Sharon) Larson of Kennesaw, GA, Julie (Bill) Rothmeier of Canyon, Jeanne (Greg) Fleck of Proctor, Judy (Bill) Adams of West Covina, CA and Terrance Larson of West Covina, CA; grandchildren: Anna, Madeline, Cody, Matthew, Stephanie, Tyler, Johanna and Erin; great grandchildren: Aiden, Eligh and Izack; sister, Eunice Call of Stillwater; brother, Ivan Larson of Hutchinson; several nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Emma; grandchildren: Barry and Michael; sister, Dorothy Warling.
