Sara E. Cina

Funeral Mass for Sara Elvira Cina, 104, of LaQuinta, CA, formerly of Aurora, MN will be 10am Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora, MN with Fr. Steven Daigle as celebrant.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church.  Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.  Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.   Ms. Cina died April 24, 2014 at her residence in LaQuinta, CA.   Sara was born January 2, 1910 in Aurora, MN to Stefano and Emma (Abbanat) Cina.  She was a  graduate of Aurora High School and in 1933 graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.   She taught in Cook, MN for two years prior to working as a home demonstration agent for the University of MN Agricultural Extension Service in Grand Rapids.  Later, she transferred to Hennepin County.   In 1944 she was hired by Swift & Company of California where she provided cooking schools and classes on television until 1960.  She was the west coast's "Martha Logan," for Swift & Co. Sara served as a nutrition educator for the Dairy Council of California until 1975. She was Food service Director for the Torrance School District for a number of years, and for many years served as a judge at the Los Angeles County Fair. She was proud to be a member of the Home Economics Hall of Fame.   Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.   She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Rosalie, Madeline, Fred, Anthony, Stanley and Edward.
