A gathering of friends and family for Joyce Florence Miller, 88, of Hoyt Lakes will be held from 5-7 PM Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Joyce died Friday, May 09, 2014 at the Northland Village Assisted Living Center in Hoyt Lakes. Joyce was born on October 8, 1925 to Joseph and Evelyn (Collins) Coxon in London, England. Joyce was working at a library, where she met her husband, Douglas Miller In March of 1945 who was stationed in England with the US Air Force as a bombardier. The couple was happily married three months later in June of 1945 and were married for fifty-four years until Douglas’ death in 1999. The couple moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1960 where they raised their three children before moving to Duluth in 1973. Joyce was employed as a LPN at St. Luke’s for thirteen years. After retiring, they returned to Hoyt Lakes where Joyce remained until the time of her death. Joyce enjoyed gardening, knitting, playing cards and scrabble, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include three children: Richard (Margot) Miller of Cloquet, Sally Miller of Palo, and Cathy (Robert) Bartholomew of Hoyt Lakes; Seven grandchildren: Amy Miller, Lori (John) Livingston, Paul (Erin) Miller, Andrea (Tim) Soular, Cherie (Steve) Grams, Hope (Len) Mueller, and Josh Miller; numerous great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug; a son Chris, and her parents.
