A memorial service for Louise Ann Holmes, 92, of Biwabik, formerly of Superior, will be 1 pm Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Pastors Paul Van Antwerp and Joel Huenemann officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Biwabik Township Cemetery. Mrs. Holmes died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Essentia Health Northern Pines in Aurora. She was born on April 28, 1922 to Henry and Christine (Williams) Sedgeman in Eveleth. Louise grew up in Elcor and graduated from Gilbert High School. Following high school she attended Eveleth Junior College. She was united in marriage to Earl M. Holmes, Jr. on November 22, 1941. The couple made their home in Hutter and later Superior, WI. Louise was very active in the community. She was a member of the Gilbert and Superior Presbyterian Churches where she played the organ and most recently a member of the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik. She was also a member of the Gilbert VFW Auxiliary, and the Hutter Women’s Sewing Club. Louise actively volunteered as a Biwabik Township recreation leader, the March of Dimes, and the St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic Cancer Support Group. In her spare time, Louise enjoyed baking and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, pasties, and jellyrolls. She also enjoyed embroidery, especially tablecloths, playing the organ, collecting “new crisp” money for gifting, and spending time with family and friends, having frequent company over. Survivors include her three children: Bill (Lucia) Holmes of Lakeland, Bob (Pat) Holmes of Aurora, and Chris (Kevin) Korpi of Otsego, MN; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren; one brother, William (Marie) Sedgeman of Warren, MN; a brother-in-law, John Holmes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Christine Sedgeman; her husband, Earl M. Holmes; a daughter, Betty Joy Zumbrunnen; and two brothers, Charles “Chas” and George “Mert” Sedgeman.
