Memorial service for Bernard Michael Sarich, 87, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Fr. Eamonn Boland officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Bernard died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora, MN. He was born April 26, 1927 in Hibbing, MN to Peter and Stella (Janovich) Sarich. Bernard graduate from Hibbing High School and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. He worked in the mining industry his entire career; beginning in Duluth. He retired from Pickands Mather as a purchasing agent, retiring with 35 years of service. Bernard married Joan Rahier Gross in 1995. The couple became “snow birds” and spent 13 years wintering in Gold Canyon, Arizona. Bernard was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes and was an active participant in the community. He was a member of the White Community Hospital Board, the Hoyt Lakes Cemetery Board, the Hoyt Lakes Garden Club, the Hoyt Lakes Library Board, the Lions Club and was a former Moose Lodge member. He was also instrumental in the organization of the Taconite Recreation Club (TRC) and served as its president for many years. He was a world-wide traveler and enjoyed golf, reading and the theatre. Survivors include his wife, Joan; step-children: Cathy (Dale) Coan of Aurora, Charles (Holly) Gross of Hoyt Lakes and Thomas (Laurie) Gross of Brooklyn Park; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one expected great grandchild. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.
