Memorial service for Estelle Jule Walkama, 75, of Makinen will be held at 1 PM Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Palo Congregational l Church in Palo with Pastor Jerry Kosanovich officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Aurora. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mrs. Walkama died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s in Duluth. She was born on January 7, 1939 to John and Stella (Olevich) Spehar in Eveleth. She grew up and attended school in Virginia. Following school, she was employed by the Peabody Shirt Factory in Eveleth and as a supervisor at the Power O’Peat Plant in Central Lakes. Estelle was united in marriage to Robert Walkama in Virginia. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, bird watching, and being outdoors. Estelle especially loved spending time fishing and camping with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 58 years on Monday, October 27th : Robert; Three children, Susan (Tom) Carlson of Linden, MI, John (Tammy) Walkama of Makinen and Wendy (Mike Allen) Rask of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Christina (Terry) Vanderventer of Deer River, MN, Mandy (Don Gow) of Grand Rapids, Adam Rask of Virginia, Thomas (Holly) Rask of Two Harbors, Bernie (Kristine) Henninger of Harris, MN, John and Zach Walkama of Makinen; Great-Grandchildren: Melissa, John, Shasta, Elizabeth, Nate, Angel, Andrew, Charlie, Taryne, Bernie, Aubrie, Hunter, Jake and Lexie; several nieces and nephews; and two special cousins, Mike Vidmar and Judy Vuckson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Spehar; and a sister, Kathleen Omersa.
