Memorial Mass for Barbara Anne Ostby, 86, of Biwabik will be 10 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik with Father Steven Daigle Celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to East Range Hospice. Mrs. Ostby died Sunday, November 09, 2014 at Willow Wood Assisted Care Facility in Eveleth. Barbara was born on July 31, 1928 to Arthur and Leona (Wolf) Jamieson in Stillwater, MN. She graduated from Central High School in St. Paul, Class of 1946. Following high school, Barbara attended St. Cloud State Teacher’s College, graduating with a degree in physical education and social studies. She had been employed by several northern schools, including Tower, Virginia, Biwabik, and Aurora-Hoyt Lakes. Barbara was an adventurer and would spend her summers traveling over Europe and Canada, working at Yellowstone National Park or furthering her education at the University of Hawaii and the University of Alaska. Barbara was united in marriage to George Ostby on July 31, 1963 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik. Barbara was active in Girl Scouts, volunteered as a Meals on Wheels coordinator, and was the head of the A/V Department for the Northeast Educational Cooperative Service Unit (ECSU). She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, berry picking and crafting. In their retirement Barbara and George enjoyed being snowbirds, spending their winters in Arizona. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret (Jeff) Augustine of Des Moines, IA; two grandchildren: Carter Augustine of Kansas City, KS and Jorin Augustine of Des Moines, IA; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; one sister, Sheila Connelly; and her parents, Arthur and Leona Jamieson. Barbara’s family would to thank the staff at Willow Wood for their kind and loving care of Barbara.
