John Morris Krogstad

June 24, 1927 — December 15, 2014

Memorial service for John Morris Krogstad, 87, of Lakeland will be 11 am Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aurora with Pastor Brendan Johnston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Biwabik Township Cemetery. Military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert. John died Monday, December 15, 2014 at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. He was born on June 24, 1927 to Selmer and Marie (Boraas) Krogstad in Hallock, MN. John graduated from Kennedy High School, Class of 1946. While still in high school, John drove school bus. In 1950, John enlisted in the US Army, serving his country during the Korean War. On June 29, 1954 John was united in marriage to Eunice C. Christianson at the Nashwauk Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Keewatin until moving to Aurora. John had been employed by Foley Construction. In 1959, John owned and operated his own dump truck, mostly working in the Twin Cities. John was a driver for many companies over the years, including: Four Star Lines, Northern Transportation, Scenic Minnesota, and Hyway Charters. In 2006, John drove a crew bus for the Alliance Pipeline Project. He retired with a pension from Teamsters Local 346 of Duluth. John had been the former Commander of the Peterson-Lofquist-Bronczyk Amercian Legion Post #160 of Biwabik for ten years. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aurora. John is survived by his loving wife and friend of 60 years: Eunice; their five children: Debra Franson of Ely, Larry (Susie) Krogstad of Gilbert, Nancy (Dado) Tabalba of St. Paul, Duane Krogstad of Gilbert and Susan (Thomas) Makela of Gilbert; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lorraine; and a son-in-law, Rodney Franson.
