Funeral service for Lila Hazel Johnson, 87, of Gilbert, will be 11am Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Midway (Virginia) with Pastor Peter Haapala officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-6:00pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Lila died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Augustana Homes – Lakeside Community Home in Dassel, MN She was born September 7, 1927 in Menahga, MN to Hjalmer and Anna (Niemela) Arvola. Lila was a graduate of Sebeka high School and later married Albert Johnson in 1949. She worked as a secretary prior to moving to McKinley in 1959, then later to rural Gilbert (Hutter). Lila worked as a seamstress for the Cluett Peabody Shirt Factory in Gilbert and as a Cafeteria Aid for the Gilbert Public Schools. Lila was a member of First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Midway and the Biwabik Township Senior Citizens. Survivors include her children: Steven Johnson of Hutter, Sharon (Raymond) Johnson of Kettle River, Carol (Joseph) Johnson of Mt. Iron, Nancy (Nathan) Niemela of Cokato, Brenda (Guy) Elmore of Crystal, Peggy Laakkonen of Anoka, Susan (David) Hearn of Brooklyn Center, Kathleen Johnson of Anoka, Melissa (Brian) Peterson of Dassel and Rita (Thomas) Sturos of Laurium, Mich.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Leslie (Louise) Arvola, Kenneth (Arlene) Arvola, David (Mary) Arvola, Ruth Leukuma, Norma Hillukka, Verna (Harvey) Grangroth, Joyce Kotila and Florence (Donald) Halonen; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents: Hjalmer and Anna; husband, Albert; son, Bradley and brother, Rudolph
