Memorial service for James G. Anderson, 87, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11:30am Friday, March 20, 2015 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Bonnie Schandorf officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. James died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his residence. He was born October 23, 1927 in Kingston, Illinois to James and Helen (Gill) Hogan. Following his schooling, he began teaching in North Dakota. On April 23, 1950 he married Ardeen Streyle in Napoleon, ND. James received his Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota prior to moving to the Iron Range. In 1959 he began teaching at the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Public Schools and towards the end of his career he transferred to High School Administration and served as Assistant Principal. He retired in 1986 with a dedicated passion for teaching. James served with the US Army in the occupation forces in the Pacific. He was an avid rose gardener and enjoyed golfing for many years, where he was proud to have made a hole in one. He also enjoyed hunting and taking the kids fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with family. James was instrumental in organizing Phi Delta Kappa where he served as President. James was also a member of the Hoyt Lakes Men’s Choir, was a Hoyt Lakes City Councilman and a member of the Aurora American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ardeen; children: James (Debra) Anderson of Northfield, David (Jeanne) Anderson of Montgomery, Shawn Anderson of New Hope and Susan (Peter) Sarberg of Alexandria; Grandchildren: Aaron, Toby, Megan, Katie, Melissa, Kristina, Stephanie and Matthew; ten great grandchildren; sister, Kathleen (Adrian) Mc Donald of Bismarck, ND; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Janice McCabe and Albin W. Anderson.
