Funeral service for Roger L. Pagel, 79, of Mt. Iron, formerly of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10am Monday, March 23, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastors Brendan Johnston and Loren Anderson-Bauer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00-5:00pm with a Masonic Service at 4:30pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. He passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at home surrounded by family. Roger was born December 25, 1935 in Long Prairie, MN to Emil and Minnie (Tabbott) Pagel. He was a 1953 graduate of Long Prairie High School and a 1968 graduate of Wisconsin School of Banking. He worked in various capacities in banking in Redwood Falls, Silver Bay and Grey Eagle prior to moving to Hoyt Lakes in 1964. Here, he was the youngest bank President in the state of Minnesota, serving at First Northwestern National Bank in Hoyt Lakes. He retired from there as bank President in 1982. On December 28, 1982 he married JoAnne Berrigan. He was owner and operator of Pagel Sales Agency-Montgomery Ward in Hoyt Lakes and also served as President of the Hoyt Lakes Credit Union from 1987-1997. Roger was a past member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served four years as vice president and four years as president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Biwabik Chapter #293, serving as Past Master, a member of the Hoyt Lakes Development Corporation serving as director and treasurer and the Orr Lions Club. He currently was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne; children: Brenda (Leland) Nelson of Hoyt Lakes, Ronald Pagel of Mt. Iron and Dave Pagel of Mt. Iron; step-son, Tom (Britt Miller) Berrigan of Duluth; grandchildren: Michael (Christina) Nelson of Calgary, Alberta Canada, Daryl (Erica) Nelson of Clovis, CA, Amber Pagel of Virginia and Calvin Pagel of Ely; step granddaughter, Evelyn; great grandchildren: Riley, Olivia, Noah, Jayden, Aubrey and Jordan; brothers: Kenneth Pagel of Long Prairie and Allen (Martha) Pagel of Sauk Center; sister-in-law, Donna (Al) Saralampi of Hoyt Lakes; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don and a sister Sylvia, in infancy.
